You can continue to enjoy and support our nights of exceptional live music in Worcester in one of two ways:
Pay what you can
Add the event to your calendar so you don’t forget, then just turn up on the night and pay what you can afford, cash or card, on the door. Suggested contribution £12-15 for most shows.
Join our club
Join the Music Spoken Here Members Club for £18 per month and get one of our super-cool tees and free entry with reserved seating for all our Kind of Jazz events on Thursdays.
When we started Music Spoken Here, we chose Eventbrite for ticketing. Initially we passed their processing fees (approximately 10% all-in) on to you – our customers. As an economically bleak winter approached, in December 2022 we stopped passing those fees on and absorbed them in our own costs. It was the right thing to do.
In August 2023, Eventbrite announced a new pricing model that would have resulted in doubling those costs for all new events published from September. At a time when live music and everyone’s pockets are already being increasingly throttled, we needed to change.
We ask everyone attending to contribute what you can honestly afford, reflecting your appreciation of the high standard of musicians and music we are bringing to Worcester. Considering our average costs are around £1000 per event, £15 is a reasonable contribution. Most importantly, we want as many people as possible to enjoy what we are doing at a price that is right for them.
Music Spoken Here is a project that has been personally and realistically funded to establish a new scene for live jazz, funk & fusion in Worcester. We’ve been going for over three years and have subsidised the live events to the tune of around £30,000, in addition to other business running costs and equipment. We are hoping that with your help, we can grow our audience over the next 12 months to the point where it becomes self-sustaining. We have so many great bands and musicians keen to support this project that in January 2024 we increased to two shows per month to accommodate them all. Our program is fully booked and funded through to the end of June 2026 and we’ll be booking the 2026/27 program (September to June) in April.
We’ve introduced Club Membership for anyone who wants to support Music Spoken Here and exceptional live music in Worcester through monthly contributions. Club Members enjoy free entry and reserved seating for all our Kind of Jazz events on Thursdays. (Membership benefits do not currently extend to our new Sunday Service program, but in future we may introduce a comprehensive membership option that includes all our events). Members receive one of our super-cool Music Spoken Here t-shirts, access to audio recordings of the shows (conditional on permission from the band) and will be invited to participate in discussions and planning for the future of Music Spoken Here programming and operations. You can of course cancel your membership at any time.
