From September 2023 until further notice, all Music Spoken Here events at The Marrs Bar will be ticket-free.
You can continue to enjoy and support our nights of exceptional live music in Worcester in one of two ways:
Pay what you can
Add the event to your calendar so you don’t forget, then just turn up on the night and pay what you can afford, cash or card, on the door. Suggested contribution £10-15 for most shows.
Join our club
Join the Music Spoken Here Members Club for £18 per month and get one of our super-cool tees, free entry to all our events and reserved seating.
When we started Music Spoken Here, we chose Eventbrite for ticketing. Initially we passed their processing fees (approximately 10% all-in) on to you – our customers. As an economically bleak winter approached, in December 2022 we stopped passing those fees on and absorbed them in our own costs. It was the right thing to do.
In August 2023, Eventbrite announced a new pricing model that would have resulted in doubling those costs for all new events published from September. At a time when live music and everyone’s pockets are already being increasingly throttled, we needed to change.
There is a minimum payment of £5 and for guidance, our previous ticket pricing was £10 early-bird, £12.50 online and £15 on-the-door. If you have attended any Music Spoken Here events before and were happy with the price you paid, it would be great if you could continue with similar contributions (with the added assurance that your money is going directly towards our event costs and not to some faceless robot on the other side of the world!). If you’re new to Music Spoken Here, maybe pay £5 on your first visit and a bit more next time if you can. Most importantly, we want as many people as possible to enjoy what we are doing at a price that is right for them.
Musicians invest an incredible amount of time, effort and money to get to the standard that we showcase through Music Spoken Here events. We pay them a decent guaranteed fee and we expect everyone attending to contribute something. If you really can’t afford £5, maybe you can contribute in other ways? We could always use help with photography, video editing, website management or keeping things running smoothly on the night.
Music Spoken Here is a project that has been personally and realistically funded to establish a new scene for live jazz, funk & fusion in Worcester. We’ve been going well over a year and have plenty in the tank to see more growth in 2024. We now have so many great bands and musicians keen to support this project that we are increasing shows to every two weeks from January 2024 and the program is already full through to the end of June.
We’ve introduced Club Membership for anyone who wants to support Music Spoken Here and exceptional live music in Worcester through monthly contributions. As well as free entry to all Music Spoken Here events and reserved seating, members receive one of our super-cool Music Spoken Here t-shirts and will be invited to participate in discussions and planning for the future of Music Spoken Here programming and operations. You can of course cancel your membership at any time.
