Original guitar-led fusion drawing on Scott Henderson and Tribal Tech, Yellowjackets and 1970s-era Herbie Hancock, with echoes of John Scofield, Lyle Mays, Vince Mendoza and the Brecker Brothers

Equal Measures is a jazz-fusion quartet led by bassist and composer Jules Jackson. Formed in 2019, the band brings together long-standing collaborators Tommy Emmerton (guitar), Dougie Freeman (keyboards) and Jack Pollitt (drums). Their original music draws on the guitar-led fusion of Scott Henderson and Tribal Tech, Yellowjackets and 1970s-era Herbie Hancock, with echoes of John Scofield, Lyle Mays, Vince Mendoza and the Brecker Brothers.

The quartet brings together extensive experience across jazz, soul, pop and contemporary music. Jules Jackson, a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, is an established bassist, composer and educator who has performed with Jamie Cullum, Liane Carroll and Jason Rebello, and has been Deputy Head of Jazz at Guildhall since 2019. Drummer Jack Pollitt has performed and recorded with Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran and Pharrell Williams, and spent a decade with UK soul band Mamas Gun. Keyboardist Dougie Freeman, also a Guildhall graduate and a member of its jazz faculty, has worked across jazz, soul, pop and electronic music with Mark Lettieri, Andreya Triana and Shift K3Y. Guitarist Tommy Emmerton, who also teaches at the Guildhall, is an in-demand session player whose credits span West End theatre, the BBC Big Band and major recording projects, as well as performances with Quincy Jones, Al Jarreau and Maria Schneider.
