Hailing from rural Leicestershire with Welsh roots, graduating from Trinity Laban via Junior Birmingham Conservatoire and now bringing a fresh perspective to South East London, Nye Banfield is a profoundly creative saxophonist and composer who paints visceral scenes from his life and the people around him. Nye has a love for classical music and a deep affection for all art which speaks with a raw honesty. Combining his influences from jazz icons Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, Ambrose Akinmusire, and mentor Mark Lockheart, Nye concocts an audio-feast of fluid improvisation and rich composition, leading the listener on a vivid journey.
The rhythm section for this performance features virtuoso brothers Robbie Moore on piano and Ewan Moore on drums, with Ben Crane (PYJÆN) on double bass, who together hold the tools to set the stage and your ears alight. Coming off the back of powerful performances at Love Supreme Festival, Pizza Express and The 606 to name a few, Nye is taking his music on the road. Whether he’s directing a quartet, quintet or sextet, the group creates a gripping and intense experience that rips up the rule books and speaks from a combined beating heart.
